Wouldn’t it be amazing if somebody personally tested all the anti-snoring products out there and shared what truly worked for them?
Turns out that someone already did that.
After a sleep study that was so bad his doctor personally called him to urge him to buy a CPAP machine, Ray Fowler decided to take matters into his own hands. He spent over a year researching, testing, and documenting every over-the-counter snoring solution he could find, all while recording his sleep every night.
Most of the products he tried ended up in the junk pile. Eventually, 14 items made Ray’s final list of the best anti-snoring devices — and three of those are SnoreLessNow products.
We didn’t pay for placement or ask to be featured: Ray found us the same way any customer would — by buying, testing, and keeping what worked.
In his book, CPAP No More: How I Stopped Snoring, Overcame Sleep Apnea, and Beat the CPAP, Ray outlines the solutions he found to be helpful. To celebrate his book launch, our co-founder Chris sat down with him to hear the whole story.
Check it out below:
Like many others, Ray first thought that his snoring was just a nighttime nuisance. But as he looked into sleep health, he learned it could be a sign of sleep apnea.
He downloaded an app and started recording his sleep. When he listened to it the next day, he was shocked to hear the rumbling, snorting, and gasps for air.
“I knew I was a snorer, but I didn’t realize how bad it was,” he said. His first reaction was, “Who is that poor man, and why does he have so much trouble breathing?”
With the support of his wife Rosie, Ray began researching over-the-counter snore solutions. Over the next year, he tried every gadget, strip, and strap he could find, trying each one for at least a week before assessing whether it helped or not.
Most products didn’t do much for him. Some were seriously uncomfortable, while others were just ineffective. But a handful made a measurable, repeatable difference.
Over the course of that year, Ray’s snoring scores improved dramatically. He went from snoring 30 to 40 percent of the night — with hundreds of gasps — to snore-free on most nights. He’s sleeping better. He’s more present with his family. Rosie finally sleeps in peace.
Throughout the experience, he kept in close contact with his doctor, sharing his charts, information, and experiments directly with them.
Ray’s journey is a reminder that there are real, accessible, over-the-counter solutions available for people who snore — and that you don’t always need a prescription to start making progress.
After a year of testing, Ray narrowed hundreds of anti-snoring devices down to just 14 that actually reduced his snoring.
“Throughout this whole thing, I think I was really hoping to find that silver bullet, that one thing that fixes it all,” Ray says. “Instead, it’s a combination of things that worked for me.”
These 14 products fell into 5 main groups:
Elevation
Position
Support
Breathing
Tongue and jaw
Three of those 14 products were made by SnoreLessNow:
The Somnofit-S Anti-Snore Mouth Guard+: A customizable mandibular advancement device made from Swiss biomedical polymer
The Airflow Clip Nasal Dilator: A reusable internal nasal dilator designed to improve airflow
The Posiform Anti-Snore Pillow: An ergonomic pillow clinically studied for positional snoring
Ray didn’t initially realize three of his top products were from the same company. He tested each one independently, on its own merits. That’s the kind of endorsement you can’t manufacture.
Ray and Rosie once tried brainstorming a design for the perfect anti-snoring pillow. They decided it should feature ergonomic cut outs, slight elevation, and a ridge to prevent back-sleeping.
Funnily enough, a few days later, he realized his dream pillow already existed — it’s the Posiform Anti-Snore Pillow, which fits all those criteria and has a clinical study backing it up.
He didn’t want to spend too much money on anti-snoring mouth guards, which can be pricey. But he chose to try the Somnofit-S Anti-Snore Mouth Guard+ after extensive research.
“I liked where it was manufactured, I liked the fact that it was adjustable, that you form-fitted it to your own mouth,” he says. “I liked the fact that it was a lot smaller.”
From this, he concluded that the Somnofit-S is one of the best anti-snoring mouth guards out there, so he tried it for himself.
Ray immediately felt a difference in his airflow. It was a huge success, with his snore score dropping on the very first night.
In our conversation, he shared that he particularly liked that he could talk and drink while wearing the Somnofit-S — this isn’t the case with mouth tape or most mouth guards.
Ray’s book focuses on the products that helped him. But what about the anti-snoring devices that ended up in the junk drawer?
“If I’d listed all the products that didn’t work, it would’ve been a much longer book,” he said.
In our interview, though, he noted some products that really didn’t work for him — particularly chin straps, neck braces, and certain anti-snore pillows.
A big challenge for Ray, as well as other snorers, was compliance. If a gadget is uncomfortable or difficult to use, it’s hard to stick to. To keep it fair, he tried each product for a full week before deciding whether to stick with it or not.
This is partly why the Somnofit-S, which was named the most comfortable anti-snoring mouthpiece by the Sleep Foundation, is often such a hit for our customers — it’s actually far more comfortable than other products on the market.
This is also why we offer a 120-night return policy on the Posiform Pillow and Somnofit-S. Like Ray, our co-founders tried dozens of anti-snoring devices, which can be a costly and frustrating experience. Our generous return policy lets you test it thoroughly — and if it doesn’t work for you, you can return it for a refund.
"A typical night for me now is zero percent snoring," Ray says. That's a sentence most snorers can only dream of being able to say!
Now that he's stopped snoring, Ray's life has changed for the better. For one, Rosie is sleeping far better.
He has energy during the day, he's dreaming again, and he feels better.
The best part? "The peace of mind, knowing I'm no longer doing long-term damage to my health by leaving these issues unaddressed, especially as I enter my senior years." His only regret is not sorting out his snoring earlier.
"My hope is that the book is going to give people the encouragement and the information they need, so they can find various solutions that work for them," Ray says.
Ray also encourages snorers to seek medical advice, particularly if you suspect you might have sleep apnea.
Ray’s journey proves something we’ve always believed: the right snoring solutions, used consistently, can transform your sleep. We’re honored that three of our products earned a spot on his shortlist.

Snoring occurs when your air passages are slightly obstructed, affecting airflow. But typically not associated with choking, significant oxygen deprivation, or gasping for air.
On the other hand, sleep apnea is a sleep condition associated with frequent, loud snoring and gasps or choking sounds. It’s associated with a variety of health issues, including cardiovascular problems, fatigue, and mental health challenges.

CPAP therapy is considered the gold standard when it comes to treating sleep apnea. However, some people find that they can’t use a CPAP machine because of:
Price. CPAPs are costly and available by prescription only, which means that many people struggle to afford it.
CPAP machine side effects. This can include discomfort, claustrophobia, anxiety, dry mouth, sinus irritation, and difficulty exhaling.
Inconvenience. The machine can be noisy, bulky, inconvenient for travel, and a barrier to intimacy.
If you’re struggling to stick to your CPAP, it’s a good idea to speak with your doctor.
If you can’t use or afford a CPAP machine, your healthcare provider may suggest alternatives like a mandibular advancement device or positional sleep apnea therapy.
It’s important to speak with a doctor before trying a new sleep apnea treatment.

Yes! There are a range of effective, accessible anti-snoring devices, including mandibular advancement devices, nasal dilators, and positional therapy pillows.
If you’re unsure where to start, check out our guide to snoring solutions or take a look at our product range.
According to research, mandibular advancement devices and positional sleep therapy are highly effective for snoring.
Mandibular advancement devices are mouth guards that position your jaw forward to improve airflow, while positional sleep therapy helps you sleep on your side — a snore-reducing sleep position.
Other anti-snoring devices include nasal dilators, which improve nasal breathing. This can be particularly helpful if congestion or a deviated septum is contributing to snoring.
Many people find a combination of anti-snoring devices works best for them — for example, a mouth guard plus a positional anti-snore pillow and a nasal dilator.
